2014 LPCH Summer Scamper

On Sunday June 22, we ventured up to Stanford University to attend the 2014 Lucille Packard Children's Hospital Summer Scamper 5k. You may remember that we did it 2 years ago (2012 blog post here), and had such a good time we vowed to come back again.

We were unsure how to tackle this year, given Landon is nearly 3 and so active. So, we packed his water bottle and some snacks, brought the lightweight umbrella stroller, and put him in his "fast" shoes. The race was even bigger and better this year, taking us through a different side of the Stanford campus, finishing up at their athletic facilities with a fun family festival. Landon cruised in the stroller while Sean and I walked the first 2 miles or so. With about a mile to go, we asked him if he wanted to get out and walk for a bit...and, so he did.

We jogged and walked the last mile or so. The kid only has one speed, so he would really sprint until he was tired, then would post up on a curb for a "water break"...only to hop up, and take-off again. He only fell once, scraped his knee a bit, and shed a tear...but a quick hug from Mama meant he was good to go, and took off running again.

Once we got near the finish line, he could hear the music, and see all of the volunteers cheering and clapping...so, he and Daddy picked up the pace to cross the finish line together.

So much fun...we'll definitely go again next year with our TWO little boys!

This is my game face, Mama. Let's race.
